MEPOL Operations Director Ali Ahmad Participates in Caddo Parish 3rd Annual STEM College and Career Fair
Dr. Ali Ahmad, Operations Director at MEPOL, delivered welcome notes for parents, students, and guests during the Caddo Parish Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) awareness workshop that took place at Southwood High School in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 7, 2017. The workshop was presented by the Caddo Parish School System.
“The workshop aims to stimulate interest in STEM fields,” said Ahmad. STEM fields are critical for prosperity of the manufacturing sector in Louisiana. Ahmad emphasized that “availability of skilled workforce is a key decision factor in selecting manufacturing sites”. The October 7th workshop is the 3rd event that took place over the past 2 years in Shreveport. It is a venue for various companies and education providers to engage with students to promote high demand career fields in STEM, which can lead to jobs that support the economic development of the region and across the state.
According to Rosalind Bryant, Supervisor of Compliance and Family and Community Engagement for Caddo Parish Schools, the STEM College and Career Fair was developed by the Title I Family and Community Engagement Department three years ago. “It was a pleasure to have Dr. Ahmad as our speaker. He has supported the STEM College and Career Fair from the onset of the program,” said Bryant. Using the slogan “Treasure Your Child’s Hidden Talents” this year, the purpose of the yearly event is to educate parents and other family members about the careers that are associated with STEM so they can educate their children about STEM careers.
